In between road trips with your friend
in a wheelchair, you probably don't want to carry the portable
aluminum wheelchair ramps in your car. At the end of your journey,
after your friend or relative traveling companion is safely settled
at home again, it's time to clean the ramps and store them until your
next adventure. If the ramp belongs to your friend, you may want to
linger the few short minutes it takes to spiff up the ramp and put it
away so that it doesn't create an obstacle to mobility. If you own
the wheelchair ramp, remember that it's best to clean and store it
right away so that it's ready to go in case you make a spontaneous
decision to hit the road again at the spur of the moment.
* Brush off dust and any loose debris
with a small whisk broom.
* Dampen a cloth with clear water. You won't need to use soap or spray cleaner unless there is an unusual stain on the ramp.
* Moisten any areas where mud or clay have accumulated on the aluminum frame and the traction area of the ramp. Let the ramp sit for several minutes as the water sinks into the mud and loosens it.
* Wipe away the damp, loose dirt with a moist cloth or paper towel. You may need to rinse the cloth and repeat the process once or twice until all debris is removed.
* Wipe the ramp thoroughly with a dry cloth or paper towels to absorb all moisture and prevent any water spots from showing up.
* Slip the dry ramp under the bed, under a sofa or lean it against the wall in an area where it won't get bumped until you and your friend use it again as you head out on another travel adventure.
